Microsoft Dynamics AX Axapta implementation, customization, integration in Latin
America and Brazil, interview with Alba Spectrum Group CTO Andrew Karasev, April
2006, São Paulo

Q Which clientele do you see for Axapta in Latin America?
A. We can not answer this question from the stand point of Axapta positioning on
LATAM market. In our case we help multinational corporations to establish or
automate their operations. In this case Axapta is very good fit for the majority of
industries: telecommunications, manufacturing & machinery, including automakers,
food & beverages, distribution, transportation & logistics, port management to name
a few
Q. What are typical requirements for multinationals ERP in LATAM?
A. This is very generic question. I'd say that in Latin America we usually deal
with vertical solutions and modifications. In the case of Brazil - we often hear
the question of Axapta localization (taxes and fiscal reporting)
Q. How do you serve such geographically wide region as LATAM?
A. Alba Spectrum strategy is to have small representations in each region and have
several "hub" offices: Bogota, Santiago, São Paulo. Local support can be provided
on as needed basis and implementation usually requires Axapta consulting teams
traveling onsite. Plus, you should take into consideration the increasing
efficiency of remote support technologies.
Q. What is the competition for Axapta in LATAM?
A. Competition should be categorized as Local ERPs: Microsiga, for example and
international MRP brands: SAP mySAP, R/3, SAP Business One, Oracle E-Business
Suite/Financials also Microsoft Dynamics Navision to name a few. Both categories
have pluses - local ERP package typically is very efficient in fiscal reporting, tax
processing and regional regulations. SAP, Oracle & MBS provide better integration
with corporate ERP in the USA and Europe
Q If multinational company plans to open tiny office in Latin America - would
Axapta be a fit?
A. Well, I certainly understand that we are talking about Axapta here, but in my
opinion, you should also consider smaller ERP packages, such as SAP Business One -
we have realized this scenario for Beverage industry client - SAP Business One in
Brazil consolidate transaction to Microsoft Great Plains in the USA Headquarters
